Tennis:Kyle Edmund set to face Zverev in Rome

Kyle Edmund set up a third-round date with defending Rome Masters champion Alexander Zverev, after seeing off Lucas Pouille on Wednesday.

Edmund, who moved into the world's top 20 on Monday, was forced to dig deep in the second set, but did enough to come through 6-2 7-6 (7-3) against the world No 16.

The British No 1 will now take on the second seed, Zverev - the winner of the Madrid Open on Sunday - in a mouthwatering contest, live on Sky Sports Arena.

Zverev proved too good for Italian wild card Berrettini
The 21-year-old German proved too classy for Italian wild card, Matteo Berrettini, as he recorded a 7-5 6-2 victory.

Edmund defeated Novak Djokovic and David Goffin on his way to the quarter-finals in Madrid last week and reached the next round in the Italian capital with a solid service display.

The Briton broke twice in the first set and offered just one break point in the whole of the match before blitzing his opponent in the second-set tie-break.

He raced out of the blocks to move 4-0 ahead and it proved more than enough to defeat Pouille in one hour and 33 minutes.

The Masters 1000 Series continues with our coverage of the ATP Italian Open on Sky Sports Arena from 11am on Thursday.
